#Roommates, we know you were all devastated when it was confirmed that the Duke of Hastings, Regé-Jean Page, would not be returning for the next season of the hit Netflix series’Bridgerton“But maybe this latest news on the show will be enough to bring you back.” It has just been announced that a ‘Bridgerton’ spinoff series is officially in the works and that it will focus on the origins of Queen Charlotte.
@Deadline reports exclusively, Netflix continues its commitment to the “Bridgerton” universe after having previously renewed the series for a third and fourth season. The streaming service has given fans the news they’ve probably been waiting for, as a spin-off of the series has officially been given the green light. Netflix and Shonda Rhimes’ production company Shondaland are gearing up for a limited prequel series “Bridgerton” based on the origins of Queen Charlotte – which will put Shonda in the place of the writer. The limited series is described as centered around the rise and love life of young Queen Charlotte, the series’ fan favorite character.
Additionally, the upcoming spin-off will also feature the origin stories of young Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury. Shonda Rhimes will once again be executive producer. Speaking about the new show, she said, ‘As we continue to expand the world of’Bridgerton, ‘we now have the opportunity to devote even more of the Shondaland fold to the’Bridgerton ‘-verse. We’ve worked with Jess Brownell for over a decade and have long wanted to find the right project to put in her hands. When it came time to hand over the baton, I knew this unique voice was vital to the future of the series.
As we previously reported, ahead of the premiere of its second season, Netflix renewed its highest-rated original series of all time for a third and fourth season last month. While fans are heartbroken that Regé-Jean Page is no longer a part of the series, Shonda Rhimes is convinced that they will still love the series and what lies ahead.
“This two-season revival is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I am extremely grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to bring the world of ‘Bridgerton ‘ to a global audience, ”she said of the renewal.
