The starting lineup for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway was established by applying the statistical formula NASCAR uses for the majority of series races in 2021.
The driver’s starting positions for the Drydene 400 (2 p.m. ET; FS1, TSN, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) were based on four factors:
- Finish position of the driver from the previous race (25%)
- Final position of the car owner compared to the previous race (25%)
- Team owner point ranking (35%)
- Fastest lap of the previous race (15%)
NASCAR is leading qualifying and training for just eight Cup Series races in the 2021 season. The next qualifying session will take place ahead of the May 23 event at the Circuit of the Americas, a road course in the outside of Austin, Texas.
Below is the starting lineup, established without qualifying, for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race on the Dover 1-mile Oval.
Who won pole for the NASCAR race at Dover?
Martin Truex Jr. was tabulated to lead the field to green for the Drydene 400 based on the mathematical formula. Truex is coming off his third win of the season, a dominating performance at Darlington last Sunday. He is the only driver to have won the Cup Series more than once in 2021.
Truex too won booth n ° 1, which is valuable real estate in Dover because the track position is very important on the Monster Mile.
Driver Joe Gibbs Racing is second in the series points standings ahead of teammate Denny Hamlin, who will start second on Sunday. William Byron, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Joey Logano and Chris Buescher received the other 10 places in the top 10.
