Roommates, if you’re a fan of the award-winning ABC series’Blackish‘you might want to brace yourself for some heartbreaking news regarding the future of the series. Writer and series creator Kenya Barris recently took to social media to announce that after its upcoming eighth season, “Black-ish” will officially end.
In a long emotional Instagram post, Kenya Barris confirmed the end of ‘Black-ish’ while recalling the show’s impact over the years:
“For ALL the people in the world that I love, honor, respect and care for, it’s both exciting and bittersweet to share that black-ish has been RENEWED by ABC for its EIGHTH … and FINAL SEASON. It’s a rare thing these days to be able to decide when your show ends, and we’re thankful with ABC that we can make this final season exactly what we hoped for – and do it with the entire cast and INCREDIBLY STELLAR is coming back for it. close this chapter with us in the right way!
This show has changed my life in so many ways and I’m so proud of the conversations we started along the way. None of this would have been possible without our audience and supporters, who stood up for the show every step of the way; allowing us to change not only the narrative of black families, but of family, culture and the world at large. While still allowing us to talk about things that people weren’t supposed to talk about at the time … especially in a network TV comedy.
Thank you to everyone who made it possible to get to this point! The actors, the crew, the writers, the directors, the executives, and especially my family, who allowed me to extract so many deeply personal moments from them (often forgetting to give them my head held high) and to show them to the world. Tears fill my eyes and a smile lights up my face as I say thank you to ALL of my dark family for all that you have given of yourselves.
No need to be too upset about the end of ‘Black-ish’, as Kenya Barris still has several shows on the air, including Freeform’s ‘Grown-ish’, ‘Mixed-ish’ from ABC and the autobiographical show about his life on Netflix. , “Black AF”.
