Playdate mirror app connects handheld to PC for streaming and control

Panic Playdate console equipped with a crank is a big reason why 2021 can be a great year for “alternative” consoles, and its developers showed off a new feature on Twitter that they say is “perfect” for streamers. What they’re showing is a PC app that lets you plug in the little yellow device and mirror its screen to your monitor. This is probably very useful for game development, but it will also be useful for streamers and content creators once the device is launched.

According to the tweet, this also allows control to shift from PC to device, which can help make games more accessible for gamers who need support and already have controls set up on their PC. The tweet did not disclose a date for the shipments although Pre-orders are expected to start “early 2021”. A follow-up tweet encouraged interested parties to follow an affiliate account, @playdatealerts for a big news warning, so if you’re trying to beat the rush, this might be the way to go.
