It’s not often that basketball players get kicked in the face. Then again, it’s not often a player who throws such a thunderous dunk that they are given a brief moment to hang off the rim.
It was the series of unfortunate events of Monday’s Creighton-Ohio game, in which the Bluejays’ Christian Bishop received an alley pass, hung on the rim for a moment too long, and accidentally kicked at Ben Vander Plas of Ohio. . Bishop scored the goal – which made Creighton 60-43 – after Jason Preston of Ohio returned the ball, resulting in a quick break opportunity.
Bishop was not penalized for hanging onto the rim. Here are two angles of the room:
It wasn’t Bishop’s only alley-oop dunk of the day; he also had one in the first half to bring the score to 23-20 Creighton with about six minutes to go before half-time:
Bishop finished with 12 points, 15 rebounds and one steal in the Bleujays’ 72-58 win. Each Creighton starter produced double-digit points, with just four points coming from the bench.
